island play

we pulled in last night after midnight from our holidays on the island. scott and i so love the island, having lived most of our single and married lives there, and having most of our family there as well. we have high hopes of returning someday...but until then, this is a brief look into our time there.

we left friday night, arriving fairly late, but had enough time to get in some beauty sleep for our family photos that were happening on saturday. we had been working with sophie on her smiles in hopes that my mom would be pleased!

saturday; was family photo day, including all of my moms side of the family. these are some from the day that i took, including my grandparents and sister.

sunday; we were able to share our new philosophy with my mom about sunshine and playing outside which means no church. we headed out to find some waves for a little surf surf time, but found flat waters and wind instead. i am sure, however, that we had just as much fun, including a picnic, sophie playing with her nana (and i think rather abusing her by making her run after her and dumping sand on her), and scott and i enjoying our time just sitting...ahhhh, so nice.

monday; was lunch time with great grandma. who by the way made my favorite. like my own mom who made the same lunch every day (shared in a previous post), so my grandma also never disappoints with tuna sandwiches cut into fours, pickles and cheese biscuits. i would like to note that although there was cheese in the sandwiches, it was not processed cheese like i was hoping for. there are few places and few times that i enjoy processed cheese, but grandmas is one of them.

tuesday; we were at my dads house, having arrived there monday night. we feed and watched the sheeps including the three babies, while making sheep noises of course, and then continued to the pond to shoot bull frogs with a 22 rifle. this being the first time scott has shot a rifle, he was rather excited and smiled for the rest of the day. i would like to say that my record of flipping the bull frogs from back to front goes undefeated.

wednesday; was beach day in parksville with friends chris and sharon and their two boys. we had ourselves a little picnic, watched the kids play and mostly just 'were' in each others presence...a very enjoyable time.

thursday; headed out to the west coast to find some waves with our faithful friends sam and rob. after a little bit of packing time we made it out to our camp site and set up before a few of us headed out to the beach. thursday night the boys surfed and sophie and i played on the beach.

friday; hang out morning around the campfire, which included bacon and eggs for some, i myself enjoyed a morning of hot oatmeal and a fairly discontent child. we then headed back to the beach for more waves and play time, where scott quickly realized that he was not too enthusiastic about putting on a wet wet suit and therefore spend the first half hanging with the girls on the beach.

saturday; was a day spent with friends and family catching up and sharing hearts.

sunday; we had lunch at coombs, watched the goats on the roof and slowly headed home. i mentioned that we were home just after midnight...this was, by the way, totally avoidable but some of us feel that spending 18 dollars is a bit of a waste of money (to reserve ones spot on the ferry) and therefore spent four hours in a line up to get back to this side of the water. enjoyable none the less.

so, that was our trip to the island. we loved hard, laughed often and smelled the ocean every day...success.
