small moments together

over the past week or so i have experienced small moments with sophie, moments that make me smile, moments that i hope define pieces of our relationship. coming back from the garden. walking hand in hand. boots and shorts on. early morning and the sun was shinning through the trees, still dew on the grasses. each eating an apple from the tree behind us. birds were singing. there we were, just the two of us and she looked up at me and just smiled. then we sang a little song. sitting in the sunshine on the front steps at grandmas house. no talking. just eating our ice cream bars together. we were at the park. just the two of us. after dinner time. swinging on the swings by the ocean. seemed like a calmness around us. both with our sunglasses on. leaning way back on the swings. a little laughter shared between us with big smiles. the three of us, sophie, penny and i, sitting outside starbucks. sharing a lemonade and scone. it was early morning. penny was on my lap. sophie was beside me. we didn't say much. we just enjoyed each other and our treats. these are the moments i love. these are the moments i treasure with all my heart.
