birch bay

it was the weekend and as a family we just needed a day to share, almost silently. life seems to have overwhelmed us lately and so a day was spent at the sea, just the four of us, a picnic lunch, seashells, warm sweaters, rocks and the most peaceful quite as the wind gently blew past us.
i am not sure if we talked much with each other. i do know that i watch the girls and scott and gave thanks again for all that i have.
sophie built the most beautiful christmas tree with seashells she had walked up and down the beach collecting. she sings most always when she works at things by herself. not sure if they are real songs or just ones she creates as she works. i love her inhibition.
penny threw rocks curled up on her dads lap. she shared a secret with me later, saying that her favorite thing is to throw rocks. i replied that she was pretty good at it. she seems so small some days, so small with such a big personality. it is good for our hearts, these days of simple. i am thankful for the man i get to journey through life with. i am thankful for his attitude, his willingness, his effort, the ease with which he seems to do life. shhhh she said, i am listening to what the sea has to tell me. i think maybe we will have to revisit this place, this birch bay. it was calm and lovely. it was a beautiful day together.
