stories from the weekend

just a side note...the pictures were all take on suday outside our little house and they are randomly placed throughout to give you a break from reading...there is no really significant reason for them other than they are of sophie and we like to take pictures of her.

lets start with friday...

scott has friday off because he has to work on sunday...well he has to be in church on sunday. so friday, lets see, we started the morning off slow as we waited for sophie to finish her morning nap, and then headed out to do a few chores, but not before i was allowed to go grocery shopping by myself. kinda sad when your adventure involves the bank and groceries. but i made sure to take a couple extra moments and took my time walking up and down the aisles, just cause i could. once home and sophie was up we headed out to get my little scooter insured. now you may be thinking, how is corinna going to ride a scooter when she has a little one with her. well, much to scotts dismay, it is he that is riding it to work...and it's pretty funny too! let me tell you about my little red scooter. i got this a while ago and rode it everywhere....i love my scooter. scott had a motorcycle and so the two of us would go out on the town together, scott pulling over every once in a while so that i could catch up, you can only go 50 on it. we would go to church together and i would pull my scooter up with all the other harleys and park it amongst the big boy toys. while driving it, i would wave at the bikers and they would wave back...trust me, i would get pretty excited on that thing...scott would just shake his head. anyway, there are surf stickers on it, most of them are a little girly, and besides that it is red...definitely a girl mobile. however, scott is riding it to and from work...it makes me giggle just thinking of him, his big tall and lanky body sitting on this tiny little machine with his little helmet on scooting to work! he came home on sunday after driving it to first service and said he wanted a motorcycle...i thought that this was a close enough experience for now, and one that we could afford...poor guy.

saturday, scott had to do a fund raiser for the missions trip he is going on in july. when he got home we was so excited...he had stopped by a garage sale and picked up a lawn mower and a rototiller for thirty bucks...i am still not too sure what we need a rototiller for, but hey, we have one! so he stayed outside for a while and fixed them up. then we headed to value village for some good times...i always helps to live in a university town cause then the VV rules. we found a few treasures and then stopped at franks corner store for a slurppee ice cream drink. pretty good. i had made a rule on saturday that it was going to be a day of no electronics, so now computer, no tv, no video games...you understand. so we came home and had a great dinner, put sophie to bed and played a rocking game of pick-up sticks and 90's trivial pursuit. scott's mom and sister called half way during our pursuit game which ended our night-o-fun! i think scott was relieved! when we climbed into bed, he smiled and said to me that no electronics night was defiantly a corinna idea!

sunday after church we were invited out for lunch for some friends house. a sure way to end the weekend, very enjoyable. once home i decided i would give this lawnmower of scotts a try. what a beast. i pushed so hard and was sweating a ton by the time i finished...guess i won't be thinking that is such a fun idea anymore...defiantly not as much fun as i had envisioned. i put that thing away and came in. we chilled and just enjoyed each other last night. scott played his psp and watched tv at the same time...i think he was trying to make up for the night before.

in other news, we have had a talk about fitness, as that is really important in our family...well, lets be honest, it is important to me and no one else! but scott is trying, so we go for a walk nearly every night. but we have to step out, we can't just stroll. so the other night, this is scott...almost running ahead of me and yelling back, common corinna we gotta step it out now, you ain't stepping out cor, step it out! he made me laugh pretty hard...what would i do without him.
so that is us. pretty simple, pretty fun. we have made the decision to stay here, at least for another two years. then we will reevaluate and see where we stand. it feels good to make a decision and not be wavering around. thank you for your thoughts and prayers...much needed. now if you could pray for me...i made a mistake on my maternity leave papers and was only paid for 15 weeks, now have to send in more papers and hope they consider my mistake and continue parental benefits...we are screwed if they don't.

we are coming

so we have booked our tickets and are heading out to the island for the end of may. thayne, my brother in law, is getting married to the beautiful tiana the last weekend of may and so are coming to that. then i get to stay there while scott comes back here to finish up work until he takes his holidays the mid of june, when he drives out to meet me with the surf boards for a little good times. then, he drives home after a couple of weeks and heads to england for a missions trip, leaving me again on the island for some more visiting and hanging at the ocean's shore. we are so excited. if anyone wants to come play, we would love to see you.

spring time and family

i think it could be true...spring is here.
"they" say we may see another dump of snow before spring really comes, but i am choosing to be excited for what i have. here are a few pictures of the blooms in our back yard.

i have been watching and waiting for these flowers to come, it has been quite the process. at one point i saw the greenery of a tulip leaf coming up through the ground and pointed out to scott that spring was on its way. since then we have had two big bouts of snow and cold...but the tulip endured and its flowers are about to unfold any day now. these pink ones on the tree are beautiful, but i am afraid they may be over too soon. so here's enjoying what i have now.

my family.
tonight as i made dinner, i could hear scott and sophie laughing and playing together, but was doing my own thing, so didn't go to check on them until a bit later, when i did this is what i found.

scott and his little girl laying on the couch together talking with each other. they were pretty cute. sophie has always got her hands or something in her mouth so you would think it would be hard to hear her talk...no way. this little girl has got some things to say and says them with all the freedom of the world. scott is a little worried about it in her later years and wonders if there will come a time when he needs to tell her to be quite.

this is her napping today, i snuck in her room and took it, i just thought it would go well here to show you she really does always have something in her mouth, sometimes more than just one thing.

so this is my day today. i had a few tears due to money matters and such, it is always hard when the reality of finances hits hard. but we ended well with a treat from dariy queen. scott knows how to calm me down! so the night has proven good, and i am challenged again to trust in our Lord, i am trying.

my new friends

i just wanted to share my little tulip with you

we are still in the process of teaching sophie to keep her dress down like a lady, but she seems to have a little difficulty with that. she is pretty funny, scott and i are fairly enamored with her.

we have had really great weather here these past couple of days, and i have to admit that i have one bunch of daffodils that are out and looking wonderful.

a little about my life...
our night times consist of going for a walk down my favorite street, seventh street, as it is rowed with trees and really nice old homes. there is one house close to the start of the walk that finds an elderly lady sitting on her step reading, every time we go out. we always smile and wave at her, last night we chatted a little. i hope to have the courage to introduce myself, she is just so sweet and i look forward to seeing her nightly. besides that my other friend is the mailman. coming at the same time everyday it is easy to catch him delivering our goods. we always exchange a smile and a mouthed "good morning" through the window. i get so excited to see him...my only adult interaction for the first part of my day! i have only had the chance to talk to him once (i was shoveling snow when he came by) but i feel like these people are my little glimmers of goodness through the day. not that my days are not filled with goodness, but you know, it is exciting to find new friends...and these are them.

in other news,
we are making the decision as to whether or not we are going to stay here for a while or leave, by may the first, we are also therefore making the decision...if we choose to stay...whether or not to buy the house we have been so blessed to live in. these are huge topics in our house and on our hearts and would really love all the prayers you could offer on our behalf. thank you for thinking of us.

it's earth day

happy earth day... "...the proper exercise of dominion yields shalom-the flourishing of all creation. this is a far cry from dominion as domination. and Jesus, in the Gospel accounts, defines dominion in terms clearly contrary to the way it is usually understood. for Jesus, to rule is to serve. to exercise dominion is to suffer. humans, therefore, are called to rule, but only if ruling is understood rightly." "we are to serve and protect the garden that is creation-literally be a slave to the earth for its own good, as well as for our benefit...we are called to dominion as service." "biblical eschatology affirms the redemption and restoration of creation...and proper stewardship of nonhuman nature is a task with eternal consequences."
-"for the beauty of the earth; a Christian vision for creation care" by, steven bouma-prediger
"from the perspective of Scripture, we can accept our role as creation's 'rulers' with both enthusiasm and humility. with enthusiasm, because we can rejoice with God in the special role he has given us to bear his image on earth. with humility, because we receive this task by God's choice, not our cleverness, and because we will be held accountable to God for our actions toward creation, as well as for our care for it." "there are four aspects we must consider if we would understand a Christian view of ruling and subduing creation. the first is knowledge...we must understand what creation is and how creation works... the step that follows knowledge must be concern, and in that concern, identity... knowledge and concern lead to sacrifice... finally, we must work to redeem creation, because that is God's ultimate goal for it. "
"Redeeming Creation; the biblical basis for environmental stewardship" by, fred vandyke, and others.
"the creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. for the creation was subjected to frustration , not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. we know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Romans 8:19-22
so we are challenged today to remember our role as care-takers in God's great land...what will we do with that?

are you serious

it is snowing AGAIN... what the heck is going on here? island life would be as follows; cherry blossoms are out, fields of daffodils, tulips showing their color, baby lambs and ducks following their parents, calf's jumping with their friends, the smell of rain in the air, but not falling. people riding their bikes in skirts and flip flops...ahhh i just love springtime on the island. now let me explain what i see out my window. snow snow snow. the grass is just now coming back to a green state. the cars and trucks are muddy and dirty. there was some greenery from bulbs trying to come through the ground, but i believe they are heading back down. there were some buds on the trees that looked like they might pop open, but they have closed tight their leaves. people are wearing toques and heavy winter jackets. did i mention the snow? just in case i didn't, it's snowing. and people say that it is not the last of the season... are you serious?

life on my own

...in case you are wondering, sophie is supposed to be sleeping in this picutre!

i really don't mind spending time on my own...i should say, time alone with sophie, but it seems that the days that scott is not here are the days i need him most. allow me to show you first a few pictures of my beloved little girl and then explain the need for an extra pair of hands.

so scott left on wednesday for vancouver...
i was a little upset that he was visiting the home land, but i couldn't complain having just come back from banff...anyway, scott left on the wednesday, the day after tuesday night when our little sophie decided to wake at five am and not return back to sleep until i finally hauled my butt out of bed to deal with her...this is a rarity in our house as she has slept through the night since eight weeks old. i am very strict about bed time, nine o'clock with no fuss, and she wakes at seven and feeds at eight. needless to say the five o'clock wake was a surprise. so the rest of the day was a bust...nap time really didn't happen as shown in the pictures, and we cried for a large portion of the day. ahhh where oh where was my scotty?

poor sophie was up and down from potential naps all day, with a little hanging out time in the middle. i finally got her down for a short nap and then some play time in her little water world. i think that this girl will be the only prairie girl who knows every sea creature and ocean wonder that ever was. she may live on the flat lands but she watches more surf videos and hears the roar of the ocean than most west coasters!

today was much better, lot of giggles and smiles, we are back on track and feeling good.

i heard from scott last night and it sounds like he was hooking up with some old buddies today, i am glad for him as friends are so important to us.
well, this is our life...my life on my own.
here is hoping for a great day tomorrow...

back from the mountains

we have just returned from a week in banff, oh so good to see the mountains. sorry no pictures to post with this blog...as that is my favorite part of reading others i regret the fact i have none for you. however, back to the mountains, scott was in youth meetings for the time, so sophie and i packed up and hiked a few mountains and pathways. it was so good to smell the crisp cool mountain air and to feel encased in a town instead of finding no boundaries. it was important to me to show sophie a part of what i enjoy so very much, and it reminded me of the grandness of our God. it will be important to visit such sights often to refill my soul. sometimes i feel as though i would rather sit there with our God instead of in a church...but seeing as how today is Sunday, i must get going and meet my God in His house.

our little girl

here is sophie hanging out with her dad.

scott is such a great dad, i am proud of him and the amount of effort he pours into his little girl. perhaps i should worry that they like to watch wrestling together...not too sure about that one! we are growing daily as a family, trying to understand each other and what our needs are. our question to each other continues to be, do you feel important to me...sometimes i feel like i forget about him, but for the most part we are continuing in our days as always and just dragging poor sophie along! i am so very thankful for scott, what an honor it is to call him my husband and father of our child.

happy easter

Happy Easter.
we had a wonderful day.
playing in the park and a beautiful walk on a hot day made it very special.
our family is well and i never know what to write for this blog so instead i will post some more pictures.

grandma was here

so we had a visit from grandma werdal, so much fun. we really enjoyed her stay as she was hard at work in the garden and looking after sophie. we took her on a cruise around the great city of lethbridge and showed the many sights that are offered here! we wonder if she will come back...

easter is here, my favorite time of year. at least it was on the island...what is up with this snow? we have had snow for a week now and it is supposed to continue on until next week...my glimmer of hope is the sunshine i can see today. i mean really...

as i try to keep up with this blogging thing, i will say thank you for taking an interest in our family, but i need to go outside now, its time to enjoy some sunshine.
